The following people are currently part of the Working Group for Loch Insh Old Kirk SCIO:
Chairperson, Communications Lead, Trustee
Merryn is an author and community gatherer who has lived in Kincraig and worshipped here with her family for 19 years. She has increasingly fallen in love with the kirk and wrote about it in her novel Of Stone and Sky and an article for the Sunday Post.
Nature Lead, Trustee
Living in Kingussie, David’s relationship with Loch Insh Old Kirk began in 1985 and he currently worships here with his family, where he also serves as an Elder. He works as a conservationist & wildlife guide and will be a key point of contact with nature, conservation and wildlife organisations surrounding the kirk. He is also a trustee of other local charities where he has gained skills and experience which he contributes to this one.
Tech Lead, Trustee
Pete is a senior software development manager in the CAD/CAM sector and brings these skills to setting up and managing our digital workspace, website, databases and more. A long-time visitor to the area, he and his family moved up in 2020 and worship at the kirk, where he serves as Fabric Convener.
Treasurer, Trustee
A Police Officer in the Highlands & Islands for 28 years, Neil now works with Police Scotland as a civilian. He lives in Aviemore and has worshipped in the Kincraig congregation with his family since 2009, where he also serves as Elder and Treasurer, skills he brings to this role.
Development
Lorna has had a long career in fundraising, and loves that it continues to connect her with people at home and abroad. She led the fundraising team at the National Trust for Scotland for nearly 10 years before moving into education; her Highland projects include Culloden, Mar Lodge, and Hugh Miller Cottage in Cromarty. She and husband Gary are proud owners of the boathouse in Manse Bay, Loch Insh, which was built by her father well before she was born! Two of Lorna’s daughters were married at the kirk and she brings a great passion for an exciting future for it.
Community Liaison
With active roles on the Community Council, Kincraig Community Hall committee, Badenoch Heritage and a variety of other organisations, Ian helps to connect the many local initiatives to work together for the flourishing of the whole community. A retired teacher, he continues to work with young people and integrate them into wider village life. He sees the old kirk as a key resource complementing and supporting the other facilities in Kincraig.
Building Lead
Living in Invereshie House since 2011, Alan is a Conservation Architect with a special interest in historic churches. Two of his daughters were married in Loch Insh Old Kirk, so he brings both a personal connection and professional expertise to the team. He has created architectural drawings and will have oversight of the building’s development.
Administration
Lenka is Head of Faculty for Maths and Computing at Kingussie High School and brings strong community links and organisational skills to the secretarial tasks of the charity. Originally from Kincraig, she spent many years living and working abroad before returning home in 2013 to raise her three children and put down roots in the community that shaped her. She fondly remembers involvement in church plays as a child and looks forward to contributing to its new role.
